"Callahan's Last Stand — The Story of John and Agnes" Photo by Al Wekelo — On a country farm in rural Powhatan County live John & Agnes Callahan. They like their independence and have found a way to survive in their rural home, despite some hardships. They are in their 70's and both in failing health. They heat their home with a wood stove, and John still chops the wood. They don't have central plumbing and rely on a port-a-john. They survive on a poverty level, but with the help of Senior Connections of Goochland, they get by. It's the Callahan's Last Stand…they have the right to self-determination…with plenty of dignity mixed in.
