"George Nicolas Cuba Age 44" Photo by Robert Luk — George was born in La Havana, Cuba. His happiest memories are of the time he spent with his grandparents helping them to grow grapes and produce wine. He is like many who hold a job, but never are able to get ahead because of the price of their addictions – his being cocaine and alcohol. It was after a period of incarceration that George was given the chance to enter a treatment program. He was willing to be held extra time so that he could enter a program that he felt was the answer to his prayers. After graduating from his rehab program, he is now trying to re-enter society with the help of Freedom House. He will tell you that it is an uphill battle, but one he feels lucky to be alive to fight. In this photograph, George sees a person who has been through much but is on his way to a happier life. "I'm going to be OK, I'm going to make it."
