"Outdoor Plumbing" Photo by Mariah Mears Pollard — This scene is still a reality for many Virginians in this new millenium. This gentleman gathers rainwater for washing and buys potable water at a nearby convenience store. He collects and piles aluminum cans by the privy until he has enough to sell for cash. He cannot gain title to the land, as his family members have died intestate.
