"The Girls" Photo by Chris Tyree — Joyce Vick does the hair of one of her nieces while another peers out the front door and beyond. Vick has been taking care of her brother's children for nearly a year since he was jailed, which was just days after her son was murdered on the streets near her Norfolk home. While many in her family have fallen to the ills that tempt the poor, she has maintained a solid moral spirit and worked hard to pass that along to the children she is raising.
