TRAINING

VPLC conducts annual training workshops for attorneys that are new to legal aid and for attorneys in private law firms who do pro bono work for legal aid clients. VPLC also provides training opportunities throughout the year, including training for both basic and advanced trial advocacy, best practices for intake staff and a new lawyer training every other year.

ON THE WEB

Web sites for advocates are an invaluable resource to legal aid attorneys and others who do pro bono work in the community. VPLC maintains www.probono.net/va for advocates and www.valegalaid.org for clients. The www.probono.net/va site includes brief banks for legal aid and pro bono attorneys handling poverty law cases, a library of training and CLE materials, a calendar of monthly training and other opportunities, relevant news stories, volunteer opportunities as well as listservs for those listserv members who want to post relevant discussion topics so that other attorneys, staff and advocates can respond and provide feedback.

VOLUNTEERING AND INTERNSHIPS

From time to time, VPLC attorneys and staff rely on volunteers and interns for help with trainings and at specific times during the year (for example, during the General Assembly session from January to March). Please contact Urmila Oberoi at urmila@vplc.org for more information on volunteering or interning at VPLC.
