Affordability Takes Priority as New Administration Begins
Published

As a new legislative session begins, Abigail Spanberger starts her term as Virginia’s governor with early directives that place affordability at the center of state policy.
On her first day in office, Spanberger signed a series of orders directing state agencies to pursue near-term policy and regulatory changes aimed at lowering everyday costs such as housing, healthcare, energy, childcare, education, and food.
The orders also call for coordinated efforts to protect access to Medicaid and SNAP amid federal uncertainty and to review barriers to housing production.
Virginia Poverty Law Center will be tracking how these directives are implemented—and what they mean for families across the Commonwealth.
