For Many Virginians, This Is the Safety Net

Published

A public school gym becomes a full-service dental clinic. White tents line the floor. Volunteers in protective gear offer extractions, cleanings, and exams—no insurance required, no payment expected.

This is what happens when Remote Area Medical (RAM) comes to town. RAM’s mobile clinics deliver free dental, vision, and medical services to people in communities where care is often out of reach—because the nearest provider is too far away, or the cost is simply unaffordable.

Virginia hosts several RAM clinics each year, and the need keeps growing. For many, these weekend events are the only opportunity they’ll have all year to see a doctor or dentist.
