Every year in Virginia, thousands of families wake up to find their bank accounts completely frozen — even when the money inside is legally protected.

A single garnishment can mean no rent payment, no groceries, no way to keep the lights on.

Senate Bill 301 would change that by automatically protecting essential funds, including exempt public benefits and a minimum amount needed for basic living expenses.
