Standing With Home Healthcare Workers

Published

As the General Assembly considers affordability and care for aging Virginians, home healthcare workers with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Virginia 512 are calling attention to the realities of their work.

Nearly 90% are women, two-thirds are people of color, and they earn $13.88 an hour on average—often without paid sick leave, even while caring for people who are sick or medically fragile.

Home healthcare workers make it possible for people to remain safely in their homes; without them, more Virginians would be forced into far more expensive nursing homes, raising costs for families and the Commonwealth.

Virginia Poverty Law Center supports these workers because they deserve dignity and respect.
