Virginia Legal Aid Attorneys Reaffirm Their Oath to Justice

Published

Attorneys pledging oath to the legal profession.

At this year’s statewide Legal Aid Conference, attorneys from across Virginia stood together to reaffirm the oath they first took when entering the profession—to uphold the Constitutions of the United States and Virginia, and to serve clients with honesty, professionalism, and fidelity.

For civil legal aid attorneys, those words align directly with their mission. Every day, they work to protect Virginians facing eviction, loss of benefits, family separation, and other civil legal crises.

Renewing the oath was a reminder that their work is not charity, but a constitutional commitment to ensuring that the rights promised on paper are upheld in practice.

The Honorable J. Christopher Clemens, 23rd Judicial Circuit Court Judge, led the ceremony at the conclusion of the conference’s Ethics session.
