40 Years, 40 Faces: Angel

Headshot of Angel Kersey

Richmond, Virginia

Angel, a dog lover, works for a doggie daycare center. She greatly enjoys her job and confesses to receiving quite a few “sloppy kisses” each day. She has built relationships with her canine clients, and takes pride in the peace of mind she gives to their owners when they drop their pets off. Angel’s company, like many small businesses, does not offer health insurance, and she makes too little to get financial assistance to purchase health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Now she is one of the 400,000 Virginians who now qualify for Medicaid Expansion option through the Affordable Care Act. Angel needed glasses and purchased a pair on layaway. VPLC advocated for Medicaid Expansion so other individuals like Angel can access high quality health care.
