40 Years, 40 Faces: William H.

When William’s landlord tried to charge him for repairs at his apartment, William contacted legal aid to ask for their help. The legal aid attorney met with William who had receipts for work completed. The attorney aided William with exiting his apartment without having to pay any additional fees. William, a stroke survivor, moved in with his brothers and continues to enjoy one of his special pleasures, H-O scale model trains.

“40 Years, 40 Faces” was a 2018 photography and storytelling project marking VPLC’s 40th anniversary. Photographer Glen McClure and writer Marshall McClure documented Virginians impacted by VPLC’s work, using portraits and interviews to highlight resilience, dignity, and the ongoing fight for justice.
