Ensuring Access to Healthcare, Essential Benefits, and Healthy Communities

Everyone deserves to live in dignity and good health. We work to ensure that Virginia’s safety net systems support access to healthcare, food, income, and long-term care for all who need it.

Virginia’s healthcare and benefits systems can be difficult to navigate, especially for older adults, people with disabilities, and low-income families. At VPLC, we advocate for policies and practices that make public benefits systems more responsive, more equitable, and easier to access.

Whether we’re improving SNAP eligibility systems, streamlining Medicaid enrollment, or protecting the rights of nursing home residents, our goal is simple: help people get the care and support they need when they need it. Our work spans both individual rights and systemic change, ensuring that public programs work for the public good.

How We Advance Health and Wellbeing

Elder Law

VPLC provides legal support, advocates for stronger elder protections, and works to ensure that older Virginians can live with security, access essential services, and guard against financial or legal exploitation.

Food Insecurity

No person, child, or family should go hungry. We fight for fair, inclusive food assistance programs that reach those most in need.

Health Care Delivery System Reform

VPLC works to strengthen systems so they are accessible, affordable, and designed to meet the needs of all Virginians, especially those too often overlooked. We advocate for equitable funding, better provider networks, and accountability from public and private health systems.

Healthcare access should be easy and clear, and we’re helping Virginians get and keep the coverage they need while pushing to improve the systems behind it.
